These beach family photos came out so beautiful! Aislinn and Travis are the sweetest couple raising three little kids aged 6 and under. Their three kids are so outgoing, spunky, and funny. They’re going to go far in life!

Funny story: Aislinn and I first met in North Carolina and then we both ended up moving to the beach in SoCal around the same time. We met up for coffee and have been friends ever since.

The Experience of Beach Family Photos

My photography style is more candid, although I do give you some prompts to guide you so you’re not just trying to pose on your own. Don’t worry, I’m not here to make you feel awkward!

I also firmly believe in following the kids lead; if you force them to do something for photos that they don’t want to do, they’re likely not going to be smiling and happy for the camera. Instead, I encourage the parents to get on the kids level and play with them, look at bugs together, wade in the water as a family, etc.

I suggest bringing a few props to make family photos go smoothly, and I’m never against bribery to get your kids to smile. A few props that you could include in your family photos is bubbles, your child’s favorite toy, hats, a flower bouquet, ice cream cone or another snack – just to name a few ideas.

I always try my best to get all of the different groupings:

The girls in the family
The boys in the family
Mom with her little boy(s)
Dad with his little girl(s)
Individual photos of each child with their parents
Just the parents
