Beach Maternity Photos
This beach maternity photoshoot was so beautiful! I actually took Rachel and Brent’s engagement photos at the beach a few years ago (check them out here), so it was really fun getting to reconnect and take maternity photos for another new season of life for them. It is seriously such a compliment to a photographer to return because you loved the experience and the photos so much!
The Experience of Beach Maternity Photos
The best time of day for beach maternity photos is during either sunrise or sunset. If you’re wanting the sun and the most vibrant colorful parts of the sky in your photos, then sunrise is best if you’re on the east coast along the Atlantic Ocean. Sunset is the best time if you’re on the west coast along the Pacific Ocean. But you really could not go wrong with either sunrise or sunset no matter what coast you’re on!
For these photos, we met up at sunset on the east coast. Since it was sunset on the beach, it was a little more crowded compared to sunrise. But we were able to find a private spot away from people a little ways down the beach. Luckily everyone was down and able to walk a bit in the sand (shoutout to Rachel for being pregnant, looking beautiful always, and for being down to walk a bit to find a good photo spot!).
For outfits, Rachel and Brent both looked stunning representing blue for baby boy. Rachel wore a blue maxi-dress while Brent wore jeans and a blue and white striped button up shirt. Here is a Maternity Outfit Inspiration mood board from Pinterest for additional outfit ideas. A few props that you could include in your maternity photos (if you want! Not needed though) is ultrasound photos, baby clothes/booties, a flower bouquet, a sign/blanket/something with your baby’s name, and however else you want to incorporate fun details.
We ended up hanging out on the beach for about an hour taking photos and laughing and having fun! Rachel and Brent are just so sweet and were so excited about welcoming their baby boy in just a few weeks. I had them sitting, jogging, walking, dancing, getting in the water, and, of course, also did some solo shots of just Rachel. The photos turned out beautiful, if I do say so myself!!
